Velenje

The House of Minerals at the Velenje Stari trg is a unique museum housing more than five thousand minerals from Slovenia and all over the world. Among them there are some that glow in all their beauty and splendour when viewed under ultraviolet light. The most precious object of the House of Minerals is piece of amber from the Velenje Coal Mine. Like most of the other exhibited minerals, it was found by the owner of the collection and an exceptional connoisseur of minerals, Jože Rihtar. In addition to a rich collection of minerals, visitors can also admire an exhibition of gems and precious stones.
